Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Chowdhary Welcomes Supreme Court Nod to Voter Roll Revision Drive

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chowdhary on Thursday hailed the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Election Commission of India (ECI) to continue its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, calling it a necessary move to ensure that only Indian citizens are registered as voters.

Speaking from Ranchi, where he is attending the 27th Eastern Zonal Council meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chowdhary stated, “We welcome the Supreme Court decision. No one interferes with the work of the Election Commission. We offer suggestions, and the Court has made it clear that Aadhaar card, PAN card, and ration card may be used as supporting documents in the SIR process.”

Chowdhary further clarified that Aadhaar details must be submitted according to the established guidelines and reiterated that the Indian Constitution mandates that only Indian citizens are eligible to vote. “The SIR drive must continue to protect the integrity of the electoral process,” he stressed.

The Supreme Court on Thursday had described the SIR process as a “constitutional mandate,” thereby allowing the ECI to move forward with its efforts in Bihar.
