Rahul Gandhi Faces Legal Heat Over Alleged Remarks on Sikhs During US Visit

In a significant legal development, a Varanasi MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh has accepted a petition for hearing against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi concerning his alleged remarks on the Sikh community made during his September 2024 visit to the United States.

Advocate Vivek Shankar Tiwari, who filed the petition, stated that Gandhi’s comments were objectionable and allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. The statement, which has not been detailed publicly, reportedly drew support from Khalistani terrorist Gurwant Singh Pannu, intensifying the controversy.

Initially, the petition was dismissed by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Special MP-MLA Court) on November 28, 2024. However, Advocate Tiwari pursued the matter by filing a revision petition in the Sessions Court. On Monday, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (MP-MLA Court) Yajuvendra Vikram Singh admitted the plea for hearing.

The petition further claims that Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, made “inflammatory” remarks that could potentially damage communal harmony. If proven, the allegations could carry serious legal implications for the senior Congress leader.

The acceptance of the petition has drawn attention at both national and international levels, especially given the sensitive nature of Sikh sentiments and historical grievances within the community.

This case is expected to spark fresh political debates, as the Congress party stands by its leader, while critics argue that such statements made on foreign soil could damage India’s image and stir communal discord.

More details regarding court proceedings and Gandhi’s response are expected in the coming weeks.
