India-UK Strengthen Anti-Terrorism Ties: PM Modi and UK PM Keir Starmer Discuss Extremism, Fugitives, and Illegal Migration

In a high-level briefing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United Kingdom, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized India’s growing concerns over extremism and terrorism, highlighting constructive discussions and cooperation with British counterparts.

Addressing the media, Mr. Misri stated, “With regard to the activities of extremists, we shared our thoughts and views. We have noted that they are increasingly active and have, in the past and present, posed threats to the safety of our diplomatic missions and personnel. These groups also incite violence against our leaders and diplomats. We are pleased to acknowledge the UK’s cooperation on this matter.”

Prime Minister Modi also held crucial talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, particularly on terrorism and regional stability. Expressing gratitude, Modi thanked Starmer for the United Kingdom’s support following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed innocent lives.

“Both leaders expressed a firm commitment to intensifying the global fight against terrorism,” Mr. Misri noted. “They acknowledged that extremism and radicalisation are common threats to both Indian and British societies, calling for deeper bilateral collaboration to combat these global challenges.”

In addition to terrorism, the discussions also focused on high-profile economic fugitives evading Indian justice. PM Modi urged stronger UK cooperation in extraditing such individuals to face Indian law, a longstanding diplomatic and legal concern between the two nations.

Illegal immigration was another key topic on the bilateral agenda. Mr. Misri reiterated India’s clear position: “We oppose illegal migration and have taken a consistent stance to cooperate with the UK for the identification and repatriation of such individuals.”

Later in the day, Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted PM Modi at the historic Chequers Estate. The two leaders conducted both restricted and delegation-level talks covering the full spectrum of bilateral issues — including defense, trade, security, migration, and people-to-people ties.

The visit underscores the growing alignment between India and the UK on crucial global matters, particularly the India-UK anti-terrorism cooperation, economic accountability, and lawful migration.
