In a major push toward educational reform, the Delhi Cabinet, during its 10th meeting, sanctioned an ambitious ₹900 crore initiative to overhaul school infrastructure, implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and fast-track the integration of smart classrooms across CM Shri Schools.
Education Minister Ashish Sood, speaking at a press briefing post-meeting, unveiled that the initiative will commence with the installation of 2,446 smart blackboards across 75 CM Shri Schools. The government aims to scale this up significantly—envisioning the creation of 21,412 smart classrooms by the academic year 2029–30, targeting students from Classes 9 to 12.
“Between 2014 and 2024, just 799 classrooms had smart blackboards, and those too came via CSR donations. We’re now moving from 799 to over 21,000. This isn’t symbolic—it’s transformational,” Sood asserted.
The funding will not only cover infrastructure development but also focus on teacher training, digital pedagogy enhancement, and effective implementation of NEP 2020’s student-focused learning model.
According to the Minister, this technological expansion will be carried out in five phases. The tender process for the first phase is already nearing completion, marking the beginning of a comprehensive transformation in Delhi’s government school education system.
Taking Education Beyond Central Delhi
In a pointed remark aimed at the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, Mr. Sood stated that earlier educational reforms were primarily centered around Central Delhi. He emphasized the current administration’s inclusive approach, ensuring equitable development in areas previously overlooked.
“We’re taking education to where it’s really needed—Najafgarh, Narela, Seemapuri, Mahavir Enclave, and Kirari. The transformation won’t be limited to Lutyens’ Delhi; it will span the entire capital,” he said.
This ₹900 crore package marks a definitive step toward bridging the digital divide in public education and aligning Delhi’s school system with national and global standards.
