Jaishankar Meets Chinese President Xi Jinping with SCO Ministers, Discusses India-China Bilateral Progress

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, along with his counterparts from Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member countries, met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday.

Sharing details of the meeting in a post on social media platform X, Jaishankar stated that he briefed President Xi about the recent developments in India-China bilateral relations. He also conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Called on President Xi Jinping this morning in Beijing along with my fellow SCO Foreign Ministers,” Jaishankar wrote. “Conveyed the greetings of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister @narendramodi. Apprised President Xi of the recent development of our bilateral ties. Value the guidance of our leaders in that regard.”

The visit marks Jaishankar’s first trip to China since the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020, which led to heightened tensions between the two nations. He arrived in China on Monday for a two-day visit to participate in the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Conclave.
