In a major political shake-up ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, over 50 leaders from various political parties and socio-cultural organizations officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. The induction ceremony took place at the BJP’s state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, in Guwahati.
The most prominent among the new entrants is Manoj Rabha, widely known as Drishti Rajkhowa, a former deputy commander-in-chief of the banned militant outfit ULFA (Independent). His decision to join the mainstream political fold has sent ripples across Assam’s political landscape.
Also joining the BJP was Manoj Dhanowar, former Assam state president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Dhanowar was an AAP candidate in the 2021 Assembly elections and later contested against Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The inclusion of these high-profile figures is being seen as a strategic win for the BJP, strengthening its grassroots presence and broadening its support base in the state.
Speaking at the event, Assam BJP President and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia remarked, “Most of those joining us today come from Congress and various regional parties. They all believe in a unified vision: under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the protection of Assam’s indigenous identity is paramount. The safety of our people, the sovereignty of our land, and the control of our markets are non-negotiable. Every leader inducted today has committed to working for the betterment of the people and service to our motherland.”
This mass induction is expected to significantly impact the political dynamics in Assam as the state gears up for the crucial 2026 elections.
