PM Modi to Address Rajya Sabha on Operation Sindoor: India’s Response to Pahalgam Terror Attack

According to government sources, Mr. Modi’s speech will detail India’s tri-service military mission launched on May 7, which targeted nine terrorist training camps and launchpads across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This marks one of India’s most coordinated and assertive military responses in recent times, and the opposition had persistently demanded a full statement from the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister’s intervention follows mounting political pressure from the opposition, who insisted on a comprehensive debate in Parliament on the cross-border military actions and the aftermath, including Pakistan’s missile and drone strikes on Indian military and civilian infrastructure. The government has now allotted a 16-hour debate slot for next week in the Upper House.

Initially, opposition leaders had pushed for the discussion to be held this week. However, the schedule was adjusted to accommodate the Prime Minister’s official visit to London, where he is expected to sign a landmark free trade agreement with the United Kingdom.

During the upcoming session, key topics expected to be covered include:

  • Details of the Operation Sindoor counterstrike

  • The military escalation between India and Pakistan

  • The eventual ceasefire agreement

  • U.S. President Donald Trump’s disputed claims of brokering peace

Notably, New Delhi has officially clarified that the ceasefire was a direct outcome of bilateral talks with Islamabad, refuting President Trump’s repeated assertions that the U.S. played a decisive role.

Earlier today, PM Modi hailed Operation Sindoor as a “Vijay Utsav” (Victory Celebration), underscoring it as a symbol of India’s military strength, strategic precision, and unwavering resolve against terrorism.
