In a light-hearted moment that sparked laughter, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath teased Bhojpuri actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan over building a house above a drain in Gorakhpur. The remark came during an official event celebrating Gorakhpur’s strong performance in the Swachh Survekshan 2024, where the city earned a spot in the top 10 cleanest cities of India.
The chief minister congratulated the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation for its consistent efforts in promoting sanitation and cleanliness. Alongside Visakhapatnam and Jabalpur, Gorakhpur was recognized as a ‘Best SafaiMitra Surakshit Shehar’, underlining its commitment to the safety and dignity of sanitation workers.
Commending the efforts of municipal employees, residents, and the local administration, Yogi Adityanath said,
“I appreciate the entire team — from sanitation workers to councillors and cleanliness committees — for their relentless dedication.”
However, in his signature candid style, he also addressed challenges in urban development — especially encroachments on public utilities like drains and roads.
“Some people build on top of drains, which creates problems for the city. Ravi Kishan ji also built a house above a drain in Ramgarh Tal area. I advised him not to do so, as it would obstruct sewage flow and cause inconvenience to the public,” the CM said with a smile, prompting a burst of laughter from the audience.
Apart from this humorous aside, Yogi Adityanath also laid the foundation and inaugurated infrastructure projects worth ₹253 crore in Gorakhpur. A major highlight was the launch of Uttar Pradesh’s first urban flood management cell and early warning system, a significant step toward disaster preparedness in urban areas.
The event was attended by several key figures including Gorakhnath temple head priest Yogi Kamalnath, Mayor Manglesh Shrivastava, MLA Vipin Singh, MLC Dharmendra Singh, and other dignitaries.
